Swedish Meetball - October 2025
The Swedish Meetball is a small Swedish car event hosted by enthusiast and friend Jim Lucht. He owns several vintage Volvos, notably a 122S Wagon and a 1978 242 GT, and a Saab 900 S. Daniel and I attended with our classic Saabs, and met up with some friends and made some new ones. It was a lovely way to spend a beautiful afternoon, with good company, laughs, and classic Swedish cars.
The Cult of Saab!
1974 Sonett III
Now Rhode Island has a "Sonett" Sonett! If you recall from past Swedish car show entries, there's a red 1967 Sonett II with a Massachusetts registration touting a similar plate. The iconic Saab "Sport and Rally" steering wheel is a period correct piece, but is original to a Saab 96 interestingly. It fit right into this Sonett though, and looks fantastic, tieing the whole car together.
1993 900 Turbo
This is Jake's car! You've seen it on here many times, but it of course is present here at the Swedish Meetball. It's kind of a legend at this point
1990 900 Turbo Convertible
This car belongs to Jake's boyfriend, Logan. It's a very clean example of a 900 Turbo, being essentially rust free.
Some handsome tri-spoke'd Saabs
Left to right: 9000 Aero, 1990 900 Turbo Convertible, 1993 900 Turbo, and Daniel's 1993 900 S.
2004 9-5 Wagon "Aero Clone"
Dubbed an Aero clone by Jim, this 9-5 started life as an Arc trim car, one below the Aero. It was rear ended, and repaired by Jim, who installed an Aero liftgate in place of the original.
