More Interior Work! Removing the AC, Dash Panels, and Installing Non-AC panels.
Saab 99s were available with primitive forms of AC. The system broke a lot and used a decent amount of power from the engine. So, a lot of folks removed them, and hardly any 99s have working AC these days, unless you're inclined enough to replace the AC system.
Mine was one such car that came with factory AC, but it probably hadn't been working since the Clinton Administration. Heck, even the compressor had been removed, and has since been rotting away on a shelf in my garage. The rest of my AC was intact, but was taking up space and weight in my car.
The other issue are the materials Saab used for the AC panels. Saab, for whatever reason, skimped out on the plastic used for the under dash AC panels, making them sound like the car was going to disintegrate whenever you ran over a bump. Overtime, they cracked, and due to the fact that many cars were not equipped with AC, became rare to find.
So, I decided enough was enough. I was tired of hitting bumps and my car sounding like it was going to fall apart. I was tired of my dash panels falling out of place when I looked at them wrong. I was getting the AC out of the car whether it wanted to or not. I sourced a set of the much more sturdier non AC dash panels, and began converting my car to a non AC car.
